BI-DAY

BI-DAY is where the BI community comes together. The event gathers Business Intelligence professionals, cand.merc.(BI) students and alumni, partner companies, and Aarhus University faculty for a day focused on insight, inspiration, and strong connections.

BI-DAY creates a space for sharing ideas across academia and industry, discussing the newest developments in Business Intelligence, and strengthening the network around the BI field. Whether you are a student, alumnus, company representative, or researcher, BI-DAY is an opportunity to meet peers, gain new perspectives, and be part of a growing professional community.

Hosted by the Department of Economics and Business Economics at Aarhus University, BI-DAY combines academic insight with real-world relevance in a welcoming and engaging setting.

The next BI-DAY will be held on 10 September 2026.

Deadline for registration: 4 September 2026

10:15-11:00From Pixels to Signals: Hierarchical Vision Transformers for Return Prediction
Jesper Wulff, Professor, Aarhus BSS, AU

What if price charts still contain signals — just not the ones older models could see? In this talk, I show how a hierarchical vision transformer turns candlestick charts into a more implementable return signal, outperforming CNNs even in post-2019 data. Beyond performance, we open the black box — using targeted diagnostics to reveal what the model actually picks up and where in the chart the signal lives.

Nikolaj Bjørn and Lars Hansen, Dataminds

In a world full of AI hype, what does real impact actually look like? In this session, we'll share how we work hands-on with AI in our projects — from intelligent agents to emerging solutions — and what we've learned about experimenting, building, and deploying AI to create real business value in a rapidly evolving landscape.

12:30-13:10From Cutting to Bleeding Edge — Rethinking the Modern Data Platform
Morten Bo Daugaard, Data Engineer, InCommodities

This talk covers how the energy trading company InCommodities continuously develops their data platform — sharing how a fast-moving and rapidly growing trading company adopts and discards technologies, operating models, and ways of working to keep up with the ever-changing landscape of global energy trading. They call it EnergyTech.
13:10-13:50The Second 90% — What It Really Takes to Become an AI Organization
Victor Aguirre Børsen-Koch, Head of AI & Data Science, Digital Solutions, Vestas

In this talk, I’ll share my personal path from academic research into leading the AI transformation at Vestas. I’ll reflect honestly on what worked and what didn't, how we learned to choose the problems that matter, and which capabilities had to be built to move AI from hype to real impact. The focus is on the (often overlooked) second 90%: why people, decisions, and execution matter more than most AI strategies admit.
