About us

Research

Conducting research of the highest quality and impact stands as a keystone for the Department. Through our fields of research within economics and business economics, we aim to provide insights that shape the academic debate and inform policy decisions on society’s development and welfare and address societal challenges. The Department is committed to interdisciplinary research, and we support an active research environment with regular seminar series and workshops and continuously work to attract external funding from national and international funding agencies to support research activities, host research centres and expand and maintain international networks.

Working at the Department

The Department of Economics and Business Economics is characterized by an open and intellectually stimulating work environment. We place a strong emphasis on professional development in a supportive atmosphere and we strive to provide department members with an appreciative and safe work environment.

Organisation and management

The Department of Economics and Business Economics is headed by Thomas Quistgaard Pedersen. Approximately 140 researchers and 55 PhD students are organised into three research sections and 22 staff constitute an administrative unit.

The department management team is responsible for the day-to-day management of the department.

Education

The Department is dedicated to provide high-quality education programmes and to foster a dynamic learning environment. We strive to deliver research-based teaching of the highest quality compared to international standards and educate students that are in high demand by employers and have the competencies needed to excel in their work life. We are involved in a number of education programmes and value cooperation and learning across fields. Academic excellence, innovative teaching and faculty expertise stand as central elements to provide a comprehensive and enriching learning experience that prepares students for success in the field of economics and business economics.

Collaboration

Collaboration is a cornerstone at the Department. We aim to create value for our stakeholders and focus on fostering a culture of collaboration encouraging collaborative projects with businesses, alumni partners, governmental bodies, and other academic institutions including upper secondary schools to address economic challenges and to share research-based knowledge.

Organisation within Aarhus University

The Department of Economics and Business Economics is part of Aarhus BSS, one of the five faculties at Aarhus University. Aarhus BSS holds the distinguished triple crown accreditations AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS for its business-related activities.
