Title: Feasibility of university timetables for decision support
Abstract: Timetabling is central to strategic decision-making across many domains, requiring the balance of conflicting objectives. Current literature assumes decision-makers can specify meaningful objective weights. In practice, this is difficult. We propose repeatedly solving satisfiability problems, hypothesising that highly constrained problems create opportunities for algorithms that quickly determine feasibility. This gives decision-makers full resource control and implicitly leverages tacit knowledge. Our research explores and develops algorithms for this new decision-making paradigm.
