Two new researchers

Sabine Stillger
Myeongwan Kim

CEFAU is pleased to welcome two new postdoctoral researchers who joined the centre on 1 August 2026. With their expertise and research interests, they will contribute to CEFAU's research agenda and further strengthen our research environment:

Sabine Stillger is a trade and environmental economist studying firms' responses to environmental regulation in open economies. Her research combines firm-level data with quantitative trade models to evaluate how carbon pricing under the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) and carbon border adjustments, such as the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), affect firms' production and sourcing decisions. She focuses in particular on how differences in firms' exposure and adaptation to these policies shape the aggregate effects on emissions, competitiveness, and welfare. In other projects, she explores the role of industrial and competition policy in decarbonization and evaluates the effects of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) on global deforestation.

Myeongwan Kim joins CEFAU as a postdoctoral researcher specializing in international trade and innovation. His research examines, among other topics, how international standards and technological competition affect firms, trade, and economic security. In his main project, he studies the economic and national security implications of international standard-setting, with a particular focus on Chinese state-sponsored telecommunications standards. His other research covers topics related to supply chains and innovation policy.
