Aarhus University first to offer Master of Financial Management programme
As the first university in Denmark, Aarhus University, Business and Social Sciences will be offering a Master of Financial Management programme from September. No other institutions in Denmark are able to offer a similar management programme.
?Until now, Danish executives have turned to foreign universities for supplementary financial training, but from September, the first Master of Financial Management programme in Denmark becomes a reality.
The programme is targeted at employees working with financial problems, in the financial sector as well as in private and public-sector companies, and it should be seen as a specialisation of an existing higher diploma or MSc programme. The Master of Financial Management programme is thus not only suited for employees/executives in financial companies, but also for, e.g., finance managers, controllers, accountants, lawyers or other financing professionals:
? Students on the Master of Financial Management programme at Aarhus University will receive a Master's degree, enabling them to make financial decisions at the highest management level. The programme will thus be a strong supplement to an MSc in Economics and Business Administration or Higher Diploma Programme in Finance or equivalent programmes, says Michael Christensen, Director of Studies for the Master of Financial Management (FIMA) programme at Aarhus University, Business and Social Sciences.
International inspiration
The inspiration comes from abroad where most leading business schools offer executive programmes in financing, for example London Business School and Tilburg University in the Netherlands.
? In Denmark, we have until now had a number of general executive programmes offering courses in financing, but not a programme with pure financing courses. Now the time has come, says Michael Christensen, and continues:
? The lack of continuing education in financing at Master level has for many years forced companies to provide in-house training, so we will definitely be filling a gap in the educational area.
New teaching methods
The programme is research-based, focusing on providing students with the competencies needed to address and make decisions on specific financial issues. As something new, the programme introduces blended learning, a combination of on-site teaching and e-learning. All teaching is project-oriented and based on specific cases, and the traditional lectures are replaced by teamwork, with the professors serving as facilitators and coaches for the students.
Facts about the programme
The target group is banking professionals, but also controllers, accountants, lawyers or other financing professionals aiming at a career in financial management at the highest level. To qualify for the programme, the student must hold a higher diploma or a MSc degree and have at least two years of relevant professional experience after graduation.
Commencement of study: September 2012. Deadline for applications: 1 June 2012.
The programme will taught at Aarhus University, Business and Social Sciences.
