Cluster for Operations Research and Logistics is hosting a PhD course on Metaheuristics from 6-11 February 2012 at Aarhus University, Business and Social Sciences.
The course is equivalent to 5 ECTS points.
The main objective of this course is to give the PhD students a solid knowledge of metaheuristics and their application to problems in logistics. After participating in this course, the PhD students should be able to perform high quality research using metaheuristic tools.
The course will give a thorough study of a number of metaheuristics and the students will be introduced to the state-of-art within the area, e.g. Math heuristics and Hyper heuristics. Various methods for handling problems with multiple objectives will also be explored. Furthermore, practical matters of performing research with the use of metaheuristics will be considered. These include issues such as how metaheuristics are properly compared and how tuning is dealt with. Examples from logistics in the broad sense will be used throughout the course.
The participating PhD students will be asked to give a short presentation of their research topic in relation to the topic of the course.
