Associate Professor Daisuke Adachi receives Carlsberg Foundation Grant of DKK 6,280,559

The project “Automation and Skill Development in the Global Economy” investigates how automation and AI technologies reshape labor markets across countries and over time—moving beyond the traditional task-based approach. Combining international trade theory, dynamic skill formation models, and rich data from global robot adoption (IFR), trade linkages (WIOD), and Danish administrative registers, we aim to uncover why automation’s effects differ so sharply across nations and why firms sometimes adopt these technologies so abruptly. The findings will inform policies that help workers and firms adapt to the new technological landscape while sustaining inclusive growth.

CEFAU's Co-Director Professor Michael Svarer appointed as chairman of a new expert group on the restructuring of vehicle taxes

The Danish government has appointed an expert group to assess various models for a future restructuring of vehicle taxes. The expert group will evaluate different taxation models based on how well they meet objectives related to, among others, the green transition, mobility, and maintaining revenue from vehicle-related taxes. Furthermore, the expert group will consider the administrative burdens on businesses associated with different approaches to designing future vehicle taxes.

We are pleased to invite submissions for the 20th Danish International Economics Workshop (DIEW), which will take place in Aarhus, Denmark, on 25–26 June 2026. The workshop is hosted by CEFAU, a research centre established in 2025 with support from Købmand Herman Salling’s Foundation and located at the Department of Economics at Aarhus University.

CEFAU's Co-Director Professor Philipp Schröder appointed as chairman of the Advisory Board for a new CIP Foundation project

CIP Foundation has launched the project Investment plan 2050 which will analyse Denmark's long-term investment needs and strengthen the foundation for future investments.

The project addresses key investment challenges – from the need for increased productivity and digitalisation to the green transition, defense, and climate adaptation.

Professor and Co-Director for CEFAU Philipp Schröder is appointed chairman of the project's Advisory Board. The board brings together key stakeholders from finance, industry, and academia and will provide advice on analyses, investment priorities, and strategic recommendations that support the project's work towards 2027.

The appointment of Professor Philipp Schröder as chair of the project's Advisory Board highlights the importance of the themes addressed by CEFAU and their role in the debate on Denmark's long-term economic development.

CEFAU's Co-Director Professor Michael Svarer receives this year's Else Kai Sass Award for his efforts over many years to make economics more understandable to the general public, politicians, business and industry in Denmark. The Else Kai Sass Award is awarded to a person who brings knowledge from Aarhus University to society and who has made a special mark in e.g. research dissemination.

The award was presented by Aarhus University Anniversary Foundation in connection with the university’s annual celebration on the 12 September 2025.

New Senior Analyst at CEFAU

An additional donation has made it possible to expand CEFAU Analysis with the addition of Senior Analyst Marie Møller Kjeldsen. Marie brings experience from, among other places, the Danish Economic Councils’ Secretariat (DØRS) and holds a degree in Mathematical Economics from Aarhus University. Marie will be responsible for designing and conducting analyses relevant for Danish business and industry.

Aarhus University to establish new centre for Danish industry
